I've just done a fresh intall of Windows 7 pro on my Elitebook. When I plugged in the printer for the first time it failed to find one driver online and renders the printer useless. The funny thing is I still have the original drivers on a disc which I inserted and installed, but the problem is not fixed.

A search for a driver online on the hp site lead to a page that said the driver will automatically install when I connect the printer. Maybe the computer doesn't recognize the drivers I installed. Is there a way to manually install them?

I read your post on how you cannot install your HP PSC 2175xi on Windows 7. And, I am happy to help! Please try the following: Install the built-in print driver on a USB-connected computer with Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

• Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results. • Click Add a printer. Figure: Clicking Add a printer • Click Add a local printer. Figure: Selecting Add a local printer • Select Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB), and then click Next. • Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update. • Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane. • Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

When I attempted the 'add printer' option, the hp psc 2175 is not listed. I then attempted to select the 'have disk' option and was greeted with this error message: I moved on to the 'how to assign and alternate driver' tutorial. However when I right-click on my printer icon there is no 'printer properties' option.
